Metroblogging Azeroth: The town world (thanks Tony) of Azeroth in the game World of Warcraft has more than 5 million people in it, which would make it the 28th most populous city in the world and . There’s also a lot interesting stuff going on there, so why not have a blog about it. (via Boing Boing)

Hi Allen,
Azeroth is not actually a town. It’s the entire “world” of Warcraft, consisting of two separate continents and a few islands. The number of customers worldwide exceeds 6 million, but not all 6 million are in the same version of Azeroth at the same time. World of Warcraft uses exclusive regional versions and further subdivides this into “shards”–instanced versions of Azeroth. So, at any given time, you might get a thousand people in a single version of Azeroth at any given time. The biggest towns in Azeroth are commonly populated by dozens of players at any given time (perhaps over a hundred at peak hours). Just mentioning this so you get a better sense of scale.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve made a slight correction on the entry.
