On Saturday Night, I went with my friend Kai to check out the Manifest Equality art show in Hollywood. It was a fun event featuring all sorts of modern art and a special guest, Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas. Even though I’m not a professional photographer, a couple of my photos were used in a couple of publications recently:

Openroad.tv is using my photo of the Napa River for their Napa River Adventures guide.
Schmap put my picture of Mumm Winery on their Napa Valley map (Update (7/7/08): Now it works on iPhone too).
My photo with Sergey Brin was used by The Park Record newspaper of Park City, Utah for a feature called 6 Degrees of Park City.

What I saw at Wordcamp 2007

The Wordcamp conference has come and gone (I know it was a couple of weeks ago and I just now blogged about it) and all I can say is I had a blast. It was nice to be able to meet the faces behind some of the blogs I follow like who this Matt guy who created WordPress or that Lorelle who gives so many tips are anyway. Thanks to my employers, Los Angeles Urban League, for paying the accommodation and travel fees.

There were a number of great speakers. One session I liked in particular was the one by John Dvorak and Om Malik who talked about blogs and journalism (that talk can be seen on One Man’s Blog). I also liked the panel (and hanging out a little) with Jeremy Wright of b5media, who talked about blog monetization through finding your niche. Other great sessions include the Designing Massively Multiplayer Social Systems (her slides) and the Usability Analysis of WP, both of which got me to think a lot about the design of my own projects.

I met some very great people there like Enric Teller, Naoko McCracken, and Micah Johnson. Also many thanks to George Yang, who helped me with the pictures below of me with some prominent bloggers. I will be looking forward to attending Wordcamp next year.

A section of a class picture I had posted on Flickr is now serving as the picture of the front of Wikia (link to the image). Sadly I was cut out from it, but I am happy to see the picture used on another web site.

…is now the picture on the Wikipedia article of Bill Romanowski. I didn’t put the picture there (though I could have), but someone else found it on Flickr (posted below) and gave me the proper credit. That’s what having a liberal Creative Commons license allows for.

Me and Sergey Brin, Co-founder of Google

One of those nerdy cool things, Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, spoke at my search engine class. I got a photo with him.

From Wikipedia:

“Sergey Brin (born August 1973 in Moscow, Russia) is an American entrepreneur. Born in Russia, Brin studied computer science and mathematics before co-founding Google with Larry Page. Brin is the President of Technology at Google and has a net worth estimated at seven billion U.S. dollars.”
